We had a lovely Easter this year. Nana the Easter bunny did not disappoint and I even got involved in buying the gifts this year. lol ย We had a great dinner with our friends the Miller’s on Easter Eve and we spent Easter morning playing with our toys and then going to church. Spending the majority of the day at Church on Easter was very fitting. I am grateful for Jesus Christ who suffered in gethsemane and on the cross for my sins and then was resurrected so that I can be too. ย What a glorious truth to celebrate on Easter!

Rock N’ Roll Half Marathon
On March 16th I ran my second half marathon. It was the Washington D.C. Rock N’ Roll half and of course I ran it with my bestie Kami Eng. I really couldn’t have a better running partner- she rocks!! Things were interesting this time around. We got lost trying to find our V.I.P parking that my friend Mary scored for us. When we finally found it we had to run to the metro so we could get to the start line. (The parking was at the finish line.) When we got to the metro we realized we didn’t have money to pay for the metro tickets so we ran back to the parking lot to get some cash. After all that running we flagged down a car hopped in and got a ride to the metro station. When we got to the starting line the bag check was ridiculously long. Then it was time to hit the potty. Suffice it to say we started about 50 min late. But that was okay, right? Wrong. That meant we spent the ENTIRE race passing people and weaving between people. It really slowed us down! We also stopped at one point for me to get a rock out of my shoe and Kami to use the bathroom. The race really was too crowded. I will never do this particular race again. I believe they said 30,000 people ran this race. It was too small of a course to have that many people running. Really the neighborhood streets of D.C. are not that wide! Kami and I had set the goal of beating our last half marathon time of 1 hr 59 min. We were on track to blow it by 7 min while we were training. With all of the weaving and stopping for people at the race it was slow going. As we got to the 12 mile mark we checked our watches and knew that we weren’t going to blow our past time but we wanted to at least get our 1:59. That meant sprinting!!! Literally! That last 1.1 mile was our fastest. Which sucks because really if you can go your fastest on the last mile then you obviously held back during the race. Anyway we came in at 2 hours flat. We were happy to be done but sad we missed our last time by seconds. For days I kept thinking about all the ways we could have saved time, but alas it was over and at least I had Kami by my side the whole time.
Until next time….

Winter Finally Brought Snow
Our winter here in Virginia wasn’t too bad this year. I say that and laugh a little because winter is such a trail for me. My mood is directly linked to the weather and so winter is really hard to push through. However, I will say that if it is going to be cold is might as well snow! Hallie and Kyle waited anxiously for snow for months and finally got enough to play in. Because it snowed so little we didn’t have all the right gear. We made due with some clever fixes. Hallie said snow is one of her favorite things to eat and she wishes we could live where it snows everyday but….she hates wearing coats because they are annoying and get in the way. lol

Hallie is just like Ben when it comes to the cold. She can handle it. Kyle is like me…he wusses out after only a little bit. hahah
Pop
My Grandpa “Pop” was a wonderful man. He was hard working and tough yet he loved to kiss us and call us ‘dreamboats’ whenever we came to visit. This last summer while in Utah he went camping with us and I was able to take this picture. With me living so far from home it doesn’t really feel like he is gone. It just feels like I haven’t seen him in a while. I am grateful that I will see him again. I know he is in heaven watching down on us. (And going cross-eyed with jealousy when anyone drinks a coke.) ย One of my favorite memories of Pop was when he and I drove to Idaho together one fall to take me to school. We were able to talk the entire 4 hours. I will always cherish those hours I had him all to myself. ๐

Paul Bunyan in the House
This fall Ben decided some of our trees in the backyard needed to come down. They were growing sideways and with the big Sandy superstorm having passed he figured we should get them down before the next storm. *Side Note: I always think of the worst possible scenario. (Ben says I live a tortured life.) I LOVE living by all these trees but when a storm comes I panic and pray like crazy that they don’t fall on my house and kill us. We have some really big trees around us.
Cutting down one tree ended up being three huge trees. One tree fell on the fence and so Ben took down the rest of the side fence as a precaution. After two trees the chainsaw needed sharpening which meant it had to be taken to a shop which added another week to the fiasco. Our neighbors started making jokes and calling Ben Paul Bunyan because it seemed like tree after tree was coming down. (Just one tree takes forever with as big as they are and as many branches as they have.) Our yard was a mess for a few weeks but alas Ben completed his tree task and while my dad was in town he helped him put the fence back up. Back to normal finally!! With all the mess and time spent I will say this…my husband is one hot lumberjack. ๐

When Parents Visit….
My parents came out for a week and we loved every second of it! My kids are spoiled with the best of the best for grandparents. We wish we lived closer to them and could see them more often. Hallie cried three times on the way home from the airport after dropping them off. We really really love them!!
Here is a sample of what we did while they were here:

We ate at Serendipity in Georgetown.

Then we walked across the street to Georgetown Cupcake.

Hallie got her ears pierced. She has wanted them for awhile but has chickened out. I really wanted it to be her decision so I never pushed. After seeing one of her friends with freshly pierced ears she decided to be brave. My little girl was a trooper! She didn’t cry or even wince. She was awesome and now she loves her earrings!!

The kids spent lots of time playing and snuggling with Nana and Papa.
We went and saw the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery.

They ask for silence while the guards are changing and that is quite a feat for my two kids. The following pictures are while we waited. Mind you it was only like 10 minutes but it felt like eternity to the kids. lol

We loved having my parents come and can’t wait for them to come again!
Thanksgiving 2012
We had a great Thanksgiving this year. Thursday was just a normal day for us. In fact I even taught at the gym that morning. I mowed the lawn, we worked in the yard etc etc. It was a great day filled with family time. My parents flew out the next day so we decided to have Thanksgiving on Sunday instead. We had the missionaries over and our friend Samuel. We came home from church and cooked everything. It was really rushed but it ended up being yummy and what thanksgiving isn’t rushed. ๐ As we ate we did our tradition of sharing what we are grateful for. This year I was grateful my parents were in town. It had been a year and a half since they had visited so we were blessed to have them come and stay for a week!

After dinner the kids made a gingerbread house with Nana and Papa.

Halloween
This year Hallie decided she wanted to be a princess for halloween. Surprise. surprise!! haha At first she wanted to be Sleeping Beauty and then it changed to Belle. This made my life really easy because she already had the dress and the shoes. I ordered a crown on amazon.com but because of the hurricane it didn’t make it here on time. She didn’t seem to mind. Thank goodness! Kyle was Prince Charming. And a handsome Prince Charming at that! I doubted my choice for him because he has recently become obsessed with Buzz Lightyear but I figured this was the last year he would let me choose for him so I stuck with the prince. My amazing mom made his costume. She is so good at everything she does. The costume was so awesome and he looked like a handsome handsome prince! I’m seriously obsessed with this boy!! ๐
